Rode the Wee to the Lake

Did something I’ve always wanted to do over the weekend. Ride a motorcycle to my cabin. This weekend proved to be an opportune time. As a bonus, I was also able to rid the world of a large number of bugs! Has anyone else ever experienced swerving down the road while trying to avoid dragon flies? Quite the experience. Highway 6 and Highway 25 might be my favorite new way to get to the cabin.

I’ve never ever been a runner, but I love my new shoes. Getting better every day. Unfortunately a side effect of gaining endurance is burning less calories… at least according to my watch…
Wireless Bridge

Well I have finally abolished my outdated wireless using WEP. This piece of paper/torture device has resided in a drawer in my kitchen for over five years. Too many friends have been forced to enter to enter its 40 characters of nonsense to access my network. No more!
One cool night at Half Moon

Last night was probably was of the neatest experiences I’ve had in a long time.
For many of weekends during the summer I can be found hanging around the Cutshall family at their cabin on Half Moon Lake in Wisconsin. It’s one of my favorite places in the world. They’ve treated me like family there, so it’s one of those spots on earth where you just feel like home.
The past few years Bob and Jeanne have hosted the Heart of the City band at the cabin for an afternoon of hanging out on the lake. Yesterday was that day. Jason and I arrived a little after lunch to a cabin packed with strangers. A lot of people up there is nothing unusual, but I’ve never seen so many people that I just didn’t know. Now me being me I didn’t really talk to many of them, but they all seemed to be just really cool. It sounded like they look forward to that day all year round and it was really cool to watch all of the smiles on everyone’s faces.
That night, after most of the food had been eaten and everyone who wanted to was waterlogged from the lake, we all sat around the campfire. Eventually Dan and his son had started playing their guitars and his wife Sandy her flute. They played some really beautiful acoustic music for about 20 minutes and then started singing some songs that I knew. Now maybe singing worship songs around a campfire is nothing new to a lot of people… but this was a good portion of the Heart of the City band! Needless to say it was just a really cool and really moving hour or so where these gifted musicians played and sang glory to God around a fire under a starry sky in one of the places that is like home to me. It was sweet.
Anyway, just a really really cool night on Half Moon.

I am so glad to say that I have been doing my part for years and have been more than happy to alleviate congestion on our busy roadways.

Art. Finally. I think.

I finally purchased a piece of art for my 30th birthday present (which was over a year ago I know). It’s a watercolor from a local artist that I kinda sorta like. I’m not sure spending a lot of money on something I only “kinda sorta” like is a good idea, so we’ll see if I end up keeping it after I’ve had it on my wall for a couple days.

Beer and Bumper Stickers

Just got back from Ben’s bachelor party at the cabin. I think there ends up being about 16 guys around at various times during the couple days we were there. Played some golf, tooled around on Half Moon, ate some good food, checked out the Balsam Lake night life (Unfortunately the VFW was closed!), and drank lots and lots and lots of beer.
It was a really good time.
Also, Luke had the best bumper stickers I have ever seen!
